The taxi from Ashdod Port had been a blur of sun-scorched fields and distant hills, but the cool, controlled environment of the Israel Museum, Jerusalem, was a welcome relief. John Storm, with Dan and Cleopatra (who was for this trip using her nom de guerre, Patricia Leopard) in tow, was here for what was ostensibly a cultural outing. The air in the archaeology wing was thick with the silent weight of history, and the trio moved from one glass case to another, a parade of ancient pottery shards, coins, and statuettes.

John, however, was drawn away from the more famous exhibits in the Archaeology Wing, his attention snagged by a small, unassuming display. It was a stone tablet, perhaps a foot square, with a surface so intricately carved it looked less like an artifact and more like a work of abstract art. The plaque beside it read simply: "Unidentified Stone Tablet, Roman Period." The carving was a dense network of lines, symbols, and geometric patterns that seemed to shift and dance as he looked at them.

"Interesting, isn't it?" Cleopatra said, coming to stand beside him. "The patterns don't seem to conform to any known regional style."

John's eyes were fixed on the tablet. He reached for the small, discreet data recorder he carried in his pocket and held it up, making sure to capture every angle of the object. He didn't say a word, but in his mind, he was already transmitting a query to the Elizabeth Swann.

HAL, John thought, the command a silent electrical pulse from his BioCore directly to the ship's super-nano computer. Scan and analyze the carvings on this tablet. Prioritize any anomalies or recognizable patterns.

A moment later, a silent data stream returned, a whisper of information only he could perceive. HAL's immense processing power was already at work, cross-referencing the intricate carvings with millions of known scripts, astronomical charts, and mathematical formulae.

For a full ten minutes, they stood there, seemingly just admiring the tablet. Then, a low, almost imperceptible chime sounded in John's mind, a signal of new information.

"John," HAL's synthesized voice began, its tone more urgent than usual, "I've made a preliminary identification on a subset of the inscriptions. The geometric patterns correspond to a non-Euclidean system of navigation. The symbols, while not a known language, share a structural similarity to a pre-Babylonian cuneiform that, when combined with the geometric data, create a coherent, but deeply complex, narrative."

John's heart hammered against his ribs. He gave a slight nod, a gesture to his companions, and said aloud, "Yes, quite unique. The craftsmanship is superb." But to HAL, his next thought was a direct command: "What's the narrative?"

"It's a celestial map, John," HAL responded instantly, "but not of any star system we currently recognize. It appears to be a key to locating something. The information is too dense and too fantastic for a full analysis here. I'm detecting multiple layers of encryption that will require the full processing power of the Swann."

"We need to get back to the ship, now," said John to his crewmates.

The ordinary educational outing had just become a race against time. The mythical "Holy Compass" was real, and it was now their most urgent priority. John looked at the tablet one last time, an unremarkable piece of stone to the world, but to him, a gateway to a lost truth. He turned to his companions. 

"We've seen enough here. It's time to visit Golgotha."

"What's at Golgotha Skip?" Asked Dan. Cleopatra was equally curious.

"You may know it as Calgary, Dan."

"Oh. That's where the Romans crucified Jesus, Cleopatra."

They didn't question him further. They knew that look in his eyes—the look of a man on the brink of an adventure.

John and crew had no idea their innocent excursion was being monitored by the 'Flame of Sion,' a near fanatical splinter Order, of the Priory of Sion. The Vatican, and Interpol, for Blue Shield, were also hot of John's heels. Even though he was a vetted asset, he had a knack of discovering important artefacts and returning them to their rightful owners. In the process, treading on a few toes.

Act IV: Revelation or Ruin

A resurrection attempt is made—catastrophically flawed.

The world faces a crisis of faith: Was divinity always biological? Is resurrection now democratized?

John Storm must decide whether to destroy the Compass or let humanity face its new reality - a moral, 'golden,' moment of truth. It turns out the 'Compass' predicts the coming of a man in a solar boat, as the stars align.
